Clint E. Stein

Clint E. Stein, Chair, CEO & President

Clint Stein has served as president and CEO of Columbia Banking System since January 2020. He has served as a director on Columbia's Board of Directors since January 2020, and he was elected Chair in January 2026. He has served as CEO of Columbia Bank since March 2023, following the formal separation of the President and CEO roles at the bank. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of Columbia State Bank from January 2020 through February 2023. Mr. Stein joined Columbia in 2005 as senior vice president, chief accounting officer and controller, and in 2012, he was appointed executive vice president, chief financial officer. In 2017, Mr. Stein was appointed executive vice president, chief operating officer, and he continued to serve as chief financial officer until May 2018. Mr. Stein was recognized as a CFO of the year in 2015 by the Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ), has been named to the PSBJ's "Power 100" list for four consecutive years (2022 - 2025), and was a 2025 PSBJ Most Admired CEOs honoree. In addition, Mr. Stein was recognized as a Business Leader of the Year in 2024 by the University of Washington's Milgard School of Business.

Prior to joining Columbia, Mr. Stein served as chief financial officer for Albina Community Bank, which he joined following his tenure as chief financial officer at Community Bank. He began his 30+ year career in the financial services industry as a certified public accountant focused on tax and municipal and nonprofit auditing.

Mr. Stein currently serves as a director on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. His previous board service includes the Washington Bankers Association, Pacific Coast Banking School, the Executive Council For A Greater Tacoma, and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce.

A Northwest native, Mr. Stein earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Idaho. His post-graduate education includes the Graduate School of Bank Financial Management and the Graduate School of Banking. He was previously a licensed CPA in the State of Oregon.
