Clint E. Stein

Clint E. Stein, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President

Mr. Stein serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Bank and Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and President of Columbia Banking System. Since 2020, he has provided continuity of executive leadership, guiding the organization through multiple transformational mergers and acquisitions while maintaining broad oversight of operations.

Mr. Stein joined Columbia in 2005 and has served in progressively senior leadership roles, including Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller; Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Albina Community Bank and Community Bank. He began his career as a certified public accountant, with a focus on tax, municipal auditing, and nonprofit auditing.

In recognition of his leadership, Mr. Stein was named CFO of the Year in 2015 by the Puget Sound Business Journal ("PSBJ"). He has been included on the PSBJ “Power 100” list for four consecutive years (2022–2025) and was named a PSBJ Most Admired CEO in 2025. In addition, he was recognized as Business Leader of the Year in 2024 by the University of Washington’s Milgard School of Business.

In addition to his executive responsibilities, Mr. Stein serves as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. His prior board and civic service include the Washington Bankers Association, Pacific Coast Banking School, the Executive Council for A Greater Tacoma, and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce.

A native of the Northwest, Mr. Stein earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Idaho. He also completed postgraduate programs at the Graduate School of Bank Financial Management and the Graduate School of Banking. He was previously a licensed CPA in the State of Oregon.
